Sharing the Story of North Dakota Through Art and Heritage

We’re honored that InForum recently featured HOOFDA and our story in their Business section — both online and in print! The article, “What’s HOOFDA? See for yourself at this year’s Pride of Dakota Showcase,” written by Angie Wieck and published October 31, 2025, shines a spotlight on how our heritage, art, and North Dakota roots continue to shape everything we create.

How It All Began
Before HOOFDA became an apparel brand, it was a feeling — a connection to the land, animals, and stories that shaped a North Dakota childhood. Founder Roberta Quintero shared in the article how the word HOOFDA came to her unexpectedly one day while driving:
“The word just came to me and it stuck with me. I didn’t know what it was, but I knew there was something there — something meaningful.”
Growing up on a farm near Pekin, ND, Roberta spent summers surrounded by bison herds, meadowlarks, and sunflower fields. Those moments became part of her identity — and eventually, her art. HOOFDA was born as a way to tell those stories visually through the animals and heritage that shaped her life.
From Memory to Art
Every HOOFDA design begins with a story. Our very first design, “Feels Like Home,” remains a community favorite because it captures the spirit of North Dakota in one image.
A powerful bison serves as the canvas for a deeply personal scene — row crops that honor agricultural roots, a soaring meadowlark that celebrates the freedom of the plains, and sunflowers that pay tribute to North Dakota’s fields.
Each element represents a piece of home, woven into wearable art.
Roberta continues to research each animal carefully — from the Norwegian Fjord Horse and Swedish Dala Horse to the Nubian Goat, Hereford Cattle, and North Dakota Badlands Horse — ensuring every piece reflects its true story and cultural meaning.
“Each piece invites wearers to carry a piece of the prairie and heritage wherever they go,” Roberta says.
Pride of Dakota: Where Local Stories Meet Community
We’re thrilled to be one of more than 150 vendors at this year’s Pride of Dakota Showcase, taking place November 21–22 at Scheels Arena in Fargo.
Since its beginning in 1985, Pride of Dakota has helped small North Dakota makers connect with thousands of people who value locally made products and authentic craftsmanship. We’re proud to be part of that tradition — sharing art and apparel that celebrate the land we call home.
“Pride of Dakota has really helped me introduce my work to so many people,” Roberta shared with InForum. “They make it affordable and accessible for small businesses — it’s worth it to be there.”
Our Promise: Quality You Can Feel
HOOFDA apparel is made with care, available in men’s, women’s, and children’s sizes — from infant through 4XL. Each piece is screen-printed locally on premium materials designed to stand up to everyday wear while staying soft and comfortable.
We’ve even spent the last two years perfecting a new HOOFDA Vest, designed with riders in mind: longer in the back, waterproof, windproof, and flexible enough for comfort and movement.
Because every stitch, every print, and every story deserves to last.
Carry a Piece of Home
From our North Dakota roots to the pages of InForum, this journey has been shaped by community, creativity, and connection. We’re grateful for the overwhelming support and can’t wait to share what’s next.
